On the occasion of World Water Day on 22 March, the World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW) will host a conference in cooperation with Leiden University. The most pressing issues in the field of water governance will be addressed through key-note speeches and stakeholder debates. During the Solutions Forum participants will be challenged to come up with concrete solutions. Outcomes of the conference will contribute directly to the international debate around the #WorldWeWant2015 and the UN #WaterPost2015 policies.

The conference is open to both students interested in water- and sustainability issues and young water professionals. However, for students interested in social, legal or political issues, the conference will be relevant as well.

Program Outline
The conference exists of the following components:

Key-note Speeches
WimKuijken, Government Commissioner for the Dutch Delta, will give his key-note speech about The Future of Deltas. Furthermore, speeches will be given by Representatives of both the World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW), the Dutch National Youth-Council (NJR) and Water Professionals.

Stakeholder Debate
During this Stakeholder Debate academics, scholars, water consultants and youth representatives will debate the challenges that come up with the current water crisis and discuss which stakeholders are actually responsible for the upcoming water crisis. Both the benefits and the challenges of international cooperation will be discussed, and in specific the role of stakeholders such as international institutions and civil society will be highlighted.

Participants in this Debate will be e.g. Prof.Dr. Rob de Wijk (Leiden University) and Murray Biedler (European Water Partnership).

Solutions Forum
During the Solutions Forum, participants will be challenged to come up with creative and innovative solutions towards the UN #WaterPost2015 policies and its implications on an international and national level. Legal, social, political and environmental aspects will be covered in five different commissions.

We are active at all levels: from local communities, where we implement concrete actions and lay the foundations for universal access to water and sanitation, to the United Nations General Assembly, where we advocate for youth participation in water governance’.
